The cooperation of High-Voltage Union Concern and Technopromexport JSC in Algeria heats up

Electricity consumption in Algeria grew by 50 million ton of oil equivalent in 2013. Growing electricity consumption for economic and transport needs is forecast in the future as well. Considering these changes, the Ministry of Energy of Algeria actively invests into the development of renewable energy sources (RES).

Presently this domain is at the initial stage, and the use of RES is local. However, the country's climate allows the increase of RES use. The sunshine duration in Algeria is 2 thousand hours per year, and average energy of insolation in the country is 6.58 kW/sqm per day. The construction of 20 solar power plants is to be completed by the end of 2014, and they will be commissioned simultaneously. Algeria is going to invest 60 billion US dollars into development of new energy sources by 2030. The report of Ministry of Energy of Algeria shows that its solar energy resources are leading in the world.

On 3 September 2014, the agreement on cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes between Russian Federation and People's Democratic Republic of Algeria was signed in Algeria. The agreement foresees the design, construction, operation and maintenance of nuclear power stations and research reactors in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.

These changes will surely attract the companies producing electrical equipment to cooperation with Algeria.

High-Voltage Union Concern supplied VGM-15 low-oil circuit-breakers to Algeria back in 1980-ies. At that time, Technopromexport, partner of High-Voltage Union, was the general contractor of Jijel thermal power plant construction (Jijel, Algeria).

In 2013-2014, Technopromexport JSC performed the overhaul of major accessories of a block at Jijel TPP. The engineers of High-Voltage Union Concern were involved in the overhaul as technical experts and representatives of equipment manufacturer. The specialists of High-Voltage Union gave recommendations on equipment operation, purchase of additional spare parts and replacement of a circuit-breaker.

High-Voltage Union Concern and Technopromexport JSC are going to continue their partnership relations. Algeria is a starting point of the long-term and mutually advantageous cooperation.

High-Voltage Union Concern would like to thank Technopromexport JSC for the collaboration.

Technopromexport JSC is a Russian engineering company founded in 1955. The company builds energy facilities, including hydro, thermal, geo-thermal and diesel power plants, power lines, electricity substations etc. Construction of hydro power plants is the main direction of Technopromexport's activity. The company has got vast experience in implementation of combined cycle plants construction projects. Technopromexport has implemented over 400 projects in 50 countries, including 12 projects in Russia. The total capacity of power supply facilities exceeds 85 million kW. The company has a network of representative offices in 11 countries.

Jijel TPP was built by Technopromexport in 1994. The TPP has three generating units of 210 MW each. When constructing the station, the specialists of Technopromexport applied new engineering solution — bolting up. All the structures of buildings and installations were pre-assembled at the plant, thus, avoiding the welding on construction site and decreasing the man-hours. The major equipment installed at Jijel TPP was manufactured by Russian electrical machine engineering plants. Jijel is a gas-fired TPP.
